Originally from Missouri, she received her BS in Education degree in Dance and MA in Theatre from Missouri State University. She received her MFA in Theatre with a concentration in Theatre for Youth from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.

Specialty Area


Brenda May Ito, Professor of Theatre, Program Director for Theatre Education and Children's Theatre, teaches courses in Children's Theatre, Creative Dramatics, Puppetry, Methods of Teaching Theatre, Dance, Pilates, and Musical Theatre at Columbus State University.

She has served in the past as the Chair of both the Children's Theatre and College/University Divisions for the Georgia Theatre Conference, and as the Chair of the Theatre for Youth Division for the Southeast Theatre Conference. She has also served as the Georgia State Representative to the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. She has directed and choreographed shows for the Department of Theatre, Schwob School of Music, Central Peidmont Summer Theatre, Missouri State University's Tent Theatre and other venues across the United States. She has taught a variety of workshops for students and teachers throughout Georgia including the Aurora Theatre, Kaiser-Permanente of Atlanta, The Springer Opera House, GTC, SETC, and AATE.
